Sing for the Cure® takes listeners on a musical journey from the moment of diagnosis and all the experiences that follow. Librettist Pamela Martin interviewed breast cancer patients, their families, friends and medical workers. The resulting lyrics incorporate these stories. Ten uniquely talented composers were chosen to translate the poetry into song, lending the overall work the richness of a story well-told and stated in musical styles that are fresh and varied. The songs are linked together like pearls through narration, assuming the voice of a patient or loved one. This choral symphony explores pain and grief, but more importantly humor, strength, hope, and healing.

Please join the fight against breast cancer.

Your generous sponsorship of this 10th anniversary performance of Sing For The Cure ® supports breast health education, screening and treatment programs in the Metrolina area. This year, Susan G. Komen for the Cure Charlotte Affiliate is funding more than $1.1 million in local projects; an independent Grant Review Panel selects projects that will have the greatest impact in serving uninsured or underinsured women in this service area. Please note that Susan G. Komen for the Cure is not a direct service provider.

Despite this tremendous progress, the need for funds continue to out-strip the resources. Seventy-five percent of all funds raised in Charlotte are put to work right here.

In 2010, over 225,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed among women in the US. And one woman will die from breast cancer every 13 minutes. And survival rates for African American women are significantly lower than other populations.

Mammograms, regular breast exams and annual clinical exams are the best known methods for early detection. If screening guidelines were followed and appropriate treatment was received, breast cancer mortality would decrease by 30%.
